Job Description:
The Capital One Legal Department is seeking an experienced and
collaborative corporate/commercial attorney to join our growing
Global Payment Network Legal team. It is an opportunity to join an

will serve as a key strategic partner and important voice within
the business. This role involves providing essential legal advice
and support on a variety of commercial initiatives and transactions
for the Discover Network, working closely with business and legal
partners across the organization. Additionally, you will be
responsible for the day-to-day management of the US Commercial and
Product Legal team supporting the Discover Network. You will find
that the Legal Department is not a “check the box” function but
instead, an important voice and strategic partner in all aspects of
the business. About the Role: The attorney will be the lead
attorney for the Discover Network on the US Commercial and Product
team. The ideal candidate should have expertise in commercial
contracting. This position will have responsibility for: Providing
expert counsel and strategic guidance across a critical spectrum of
areas, impacting commercial relationships, including commercial
contracting and risk identification and mitigation Leading a team
of legal professionals responsible for negotiating and drafting a
variety of commercial agreements and providing legal advice on a
broad range of matters impacting issuer, acquirer, and merchant
relationships Negotiating, drafting, and guiding implementation of
commercial agreements, working in close collaboration with legal
and business colleagues and other subject matter experts Acting as
lead subject matter expert on the Global Payment Network’s credit
products, including regulatory overlays applicable to Credit,
industry regulatory developments and credit-specific operational
considerations Leading credit-, fintech and payment innovation
related new product initiatives and innovation across the Discover
Network Supporting the development and maintenance of competitive
rule sets for the Discover Network Identifying and supporting
process improvements to promote agility in legal and related
business operations, including contract template improvements
Partnering collaboratively with other internal counsel and business
teams across the enterprise Partnering with Risk and Compliance
teams to ensure comprehensive support The successful candidate will

Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence others
and write concisely Basic Qualifications: Juris Doctor from an
accredited law school Active member in good standing of at least
one state bar At least 10 years of experience as an attorney in a
law firm environment, at a government agency, as a military judge
advocate, or as in-house counsel Preferred Qualifications: 12 years
of experience in a law firm, in-house legal department, or a
combination 2 years of commercial contracting experience Merchant
and/or payment network experience At this time, Capital One will

week in-person at one of our offices listed on this job posting.
The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are
listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information
is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these
locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay
at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be
prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly
worked. McLean, VA: $269,600 - $307,700 for Sr Director,Assoc Gen.
Counsel New York, NY: $294,100 - $335,700 for Sr Director,Assoc
Gen. Counsel Richmond, VA: $245,100 - $279,800 for Sr
Director,Assoc Gen. Counsel Riverwoods, IL: $245,100 - $279,800 for
Sr Director,Assoc Gen. Counsel Candidates hired to work in other
locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that
location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any
candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the
candidate’s offer letter. This role is also eligible to earn
performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash
bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be
discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan. Capital
